Happy birthday Saul Bass
Even if you’re not a graphic designer you’re familiar with Saul Bass’s work– if not from his logos than from his amazing movie title sequences. He was one of the most iconic (and happens to be one of my all-time favorite) graphic designers of the 20th century. In honor of his 93rd birthday Google put together this really great little animation. [via designboom]

The evolution of a logo
I posted something similar before, but I love seeing how these companies have changed their logos over time– for better (welcome to the 21st century, Windows) and for worse (go back to the 20th century, Pepsi). [via The Logo Company]
New, pretty awesome JetBlue ads
I don’t know if JetBlue ever ended up (or will end up) using these posters (designed by Lab Partners for an advertising pitch), but they seem to always be a notch above most other airlines with a lot of things (leg room, personal TVs, visually appealing and easy-to-navigate website [at least by airline standards]), so it wouldn’t surprise me if they did. I haven’t seen them around any subway stations, but I sure hope I do.

Dishonesty never looked so good
Just a few of my favorite hand-drawn lies from Lauren Hom’s blog, Daily Dishonesty.

Harvard University Press goes minimal
So simple, but actually pretty clever and effective. Way to finally embrace modern design, Harvard. [via designboom]

So you think you can kern?
Kern Type is a fun little game to test your kerning skills (one of the most important life skills). Apprehensive to play at first, as I was afraid a low score would prove that I’m a bad designer, I ended up getting an 84 out of 100. Not sure how that compares to other designers, but I’ll take it.
Fifty and Fifty: The State Mottos
Just a few of my favorite posters from the Fifty and Fifty project. You can see them all in person at the Ace Hotel here in New York. It’s curated by the super talented designer Dan Cassaro. [via Cool Hunting]

Black Friday Madness infographic
Here’s a nicely designed yet overall terrifying infographic of the recently occuring worst day of the year in America. [via sortable]
New York Magazine Hurricane Sandy cover
Storm devastation aside– what a great photo and atypically simplistic cover design.
